Neuro-Critical Care

It has been increasingly recognized that excellence in critical care is essential to provide optimal outcomes after complex neurosurgical procedures.

Allegheny General Hospital has long maintained a focus on neuro-critical care, partnering with critical care specialists to provide 24-hour day, seven-day-a-week coverage for our 23-bed neurosurgical intensive care unit.

Each patient is afforded the most sophisticated forms of neuro-intensive care monitoring and support - advanced ventilation techniques, intracranial pressure monitoring, continuous EEG monitoring, evoked potential monitoring and hemodynamic monitoring.

Most importantly, each patient is afforded continuous nursing care and observation by neuroscience nurses, 75 percent of who have achieved accreditation from the Society of Neuroscience Critical Care nurses.
